Final Video

On Thursday night I was able to get my interview with Sara Burns, a CASA volunteer. She shared with me her experiences as a volunteer as well as some of her opinions on the transitioning out process.

After hours of working with Dale in the open lab I was finally able to get my video put together! It was very rewarding to see the final product after all of the hard work I put into making my video, especially since I've never done anything like this before.

Visit To Kids Matter

These photos are from when I first visited Kids Matter at the end of March. I took the pictures to get a better feel for what Kids Matter was and what kind of place these kids had to aid them through transitioning out. I just learned how to do this so I wasn't able to get this done sooner

Finally an Interview!

After a couple weeks of frustration and trying to figure out who I can interview from Kids Matter Inc I was able to set up an interview. Tomorrow I will be meeting with a CASA volunteer at around 8pm. This will give me a chance to get some video footage and actual personal experiences when dealing with the transitioning out process. Lately I've been trying to organize my questions so then I'm ready to go for tomorrow night. Along with that I've been continuing to try to fill my head with as much knowledge of the foster care system as I can.

Lending a Helping Hand

Continuing my research on the transitioning out process I discovered the Junior League of Milwaukee (JLM) is partnering with Kids Matter Inc, as they do alot, to start the Teen Transition Program.

This is something I believe is imparative for the success of the children getting ready to pursue their futures outside of foster care. These types of programs and the people that help run it are exactly what needs to be enforced to help these kids succeed.

Starting My Research

There isn't a whole lot that I know about the transitioning out process of foster care, so I took this time to do a lot of research on the topic. I decided to go on the internet and just simply Google the transitioning out process, just so I have some kind of background information. I want to be as prepared as I can be before I decide to go interview another person related to Kids Matter. Through my research I found out that there are so many negative statistics that go along with the kids that have transitioned out. Some examples are that these kids have a higher rate of depression and they have a higher rate of post traumatic stress disorder than war veterens. All of these really bothered me so I'm anxious to find out what can be done to help the kids.
